In addition to developing off-the-shelf commercial modeling software, BREEZE also provides custom Windows-based software or Web-based solutions to support our clients' specific EHS needs. Our understanding and experience with U.S. EPA regulatory models and adherence to Microsoft standards makes BREEZE a reliable source for custom-developed applications.

BREEZE is unique among software developers in that it employs experts in computer science, web and database development, and air quality/meteorology. By integrating air quality and computer science expertise, our team is able to develop software applications in support of air quality needs more efficiently than software firms that lack this integration and expertise. Efficient, high-quality testing is another advantage of our multi-faceted team where air quality specialists test our software to find scientific and regulatory issues that might be unclear to a typical programmer to be corrected before the software leaves our office.

The BREEZE Team's custom software development expertise ranges from projects that take a few weeks and cost as low as $10,000 to multi-year projects that total over $1,000,000.

Custom Windows Software Design Expertise

Custom Windows Software Design ExpertiseBREEZE provides Windows-based software solutions to support the environmental needs of our clients, from our “off-the-shelf” environmental modeling software to custom-developed software applications such as a meteorological and air quality data visualization tool produced for the U.S. Air Force.

A pioneer in the environmental software field in the 1980s, BREEZE has grown to offer Windows software tools including air dispersion modeling, fire and explosion modeling, meteorological data processing, and air quality data post-processing. Additionally, having been a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for years, the BREEZE Team can be trusted to produce high-quality software that incorporates modern software and interface design practices. Custom Windows software projects include:

  • Data visualization
  • Data processing
  • Enhancements to existing models such as AERMOD and CALPUFF
  • Implementation of emission calculations, risk assessment methodologies, and other algorithms

Custom Real-Time Modeling System Expertise

abstract weather map Each system is customized to meet the particular needs of the client. The customization process typically begins with identification of a set of likely and/or worst-case scenarios that BREEZE staff prepares baseline model inputs for each scenario. The scenarios are loaded into the custom modeling software (such as a customized version of BREEZE AERMOD, BREEZE Incident Analyst, and BREEZE ExDAM) and installed on a workstation in the facility's operations center or control room. A Web-based system can be provided instead of a PC-based system if preferred. Additionally, depending on client needs, the software can be customized to run automatically at a fixed interval using real-time meteorological data to provide constant situational awareness in the event of an incident. The ability to modify the baseline scenarios is also typically provided to allow emergency management staff to model an event that was not anticipated in the baseline scenarios.

BREEZE can develop a variety of custom web applications from air quality databases and portals to remote environmental modeling platforms. BREEZE can also host custom solutions in house. Custom Web design projects include:

  • Air quality databases and portals
  • Remote environmental modeling platforms
  • Hosting of custom solutions

Project Snapshot-Custom Solutions

Project Snapshot: Custom Development

A confidential client wanted to implement an air dispersion modeling system at a facility that would automatically read in emission and weather data from monitoring stations located around the facility. Using these data, the dispersion modeling system would need to model the ground-level concentrations of NOx, SO2, CO, and NH3 within the site perimeter to ensure that ground level concentrations of pollutants were not in exceedance of the Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL) and the Recommended Exposure Limits (REL). The primary objective of the project was to deliver a real-time air dispersion modeling system that satisfied the above requirements and produced graphical and tabular output of the results to enable users of the system to quickly view the onsite and offsite concentrations to the respective thresholds. BREEZE Software used a customized version of BREEZE AERMOD to develop a real-time modeling system that satisfied the above conditions.
